They always say write what you know, but as a writer of fantasy, it’s more about writing what you dream. My stories are for adults and young adults, and will always contain something of a speculative nature. I like to ask the question ‘what if?’ and then write stories around that. Magic in some form or another is the basis of many of my stories. Add a dash of romance, a bit of adventure, and a cup of tea, and you have the complete recipe.
RESONANCE
Mouse is an ordinary girl who is accused of an unforgivable crime – magic.
The last Mage was put to death over a hundred years before she was born, but Mouse can’t fathom how her secret talent for predicting the future could be magic, especially since she’s not all that good at it. She can only sense that something is about to happen, not foresee what actually will happen – hardly a useful talent. But one day, her other sense tells her that something stomach-wrenching and awful is going to occur, and then she sees the little boy run in front of a team of horses. Frozen with fear, she can do nothing, but then something unexpected happens. Mouse can’t say how, but the boy is saved, magically transported out of harms way, and suddenly everyone is pointing fingers at her. She realizes just how serious her offense is when she stands before the Conclave of High Lords and is sentenced to death.
Who doesn’t need a hero at a time like this? Tallus Galbraith is more than willing to fit the bill. He’s the Duke of Glenmoor, but you wouldn’t know it, as he’d rather be off performing deadly and daring missions for his father, the High Lord Assassin. He can’t believe someone like Mouse could be accused of Magery because there’s no such thing – it’s all myth and superstition. But the Conclave are adamant that she must die and so he takes it upon himself to rescue the innocent girl. Mouse, however, is more than she seems, a lot more, and during their flight, he is forced to acknowledge that perhaps she is not all that innocent of the crime she’s accused of. But by that time, it’s too late – Tallus has already fallen head over heels in love with her. The problem is, his father is a member of the Conclave, and now the Conclave is after the two of them.
Mouse and Tallus flee through two countries where together they uncover a plot to bring war and ruin to their home. Mouse’s magic is the key that can save their home in the end, but only if she accepts that she can never go back because of it.
RESONANCE is currently a novel in progress going through revisions. Please check back for updates on when and where it will be available.
MAGIC LESSONS
The world she knew was gone, stripped away by war. Khalia’s fate rests on whether or not she can learn to control her magic, and she must submit to one of her enemies for lessons. If she can’t, she might be killed – or worse, she might kill again.
A veteran magician, Jasper takes it upon himself to teach Khalia how to manage the wayward power inside her, but he doesn’t see the danger she might be, not to himself or his people, but to his heart.
MAGIC LESSONS is a completed novelette looking for a home. Contact me at cilla@mujaji.net for more information.

Friday Flash is a twitter meme that I participate in. Each Friday I post a flash fiction (A short story of 1000 words or less) to my blog, then I link the story to twitter with the tag #fridayflash. If you do a twitter search for the tag, you will find the offerings from other participants. You can find my previous compositions here. These stories are free of charge, but if you read and enjoy, then comments are definitely appreciated in lieu of payment and feel free to link to the stories elsewhere.

FANFICTION
I am a self-professed writer of fanfiction. This blog is here to highlight my original writing, but if you were interested in what I write when I’m being indulgent, then the best place to start would probably be my personal livejournal: http://clare009.livejournal.com/
Tea & Magic is the personal blog of writer and working mother, PC Wheeler. Here you will find stories about life, articles on writing and book reviews from the perspective of a writer who struggles every day to put her vision into words.
