When we read fantasy or science fiction, part of what draws us into the story is being transported to a different world, somewhere else that bends or breaks the laws of nature or physics. When these worlds are particularly well drawn by the author, we can’t imagine that these realities don’t exist, and cracking open the book to read a few words will instantly draw us there.
When I was younger, one of my criteria for reading a book was to look at the cover art. Often I could tell just by how otherworldly and fantastical the artwork on the cover was, how much pleasure I would have at being sucked into the world underneath. Many of the covers would have fantastical landscapes that contained their own hidden story. In my Art Roundup on Deviant Art today, I’ve decided to feature some gorgeous landscapes, each with their own fantastical element. I enjoyed the stories that each contained and I hope you do, too. And, if you have time, click on the artists name and leave a little comment love on their page for them.

Although you know, I think the most impressive cover I’ve seen in ages, are the ones for Meyer’s Twilight books. What’s between those covers? So NOT impressive.
Yes – you can’t always judge a book by it’s cover!
